Accept

Accept es un grupo alemán de heavy metal de la ciudad de Solingen, originalmente formado en la década de los 70 por el vocalista Udo Dirkschneider. Jugaron un papel importante en el desarrollo del speed metal en los años 80. Tras su separación en 1997 y una breve resurrección en 2005, la banda se unió en 2009 con el ex vocalista del grupo Quick, Mark Tornillo, sustituyendo a Udo Dirkschneider.

Durante muchos años tras su aparición, Accept sufrió constantes cambios en su formación, manteniéndose esencialmente en el nivel amateur, haciendo apariciones esporádicas en festivales. Su carrera profesional comienza en 1976, cuando fueron invitados a tocar en uno de los primeros festivales de rock 'n roll en Alemania — Rock am Rhein. Después del festival, la banda recibió la oferta y entró al estudio profesional por primera vez, a fin de grabar su primer disco autotitulado Accept, un álbum que a pesar de los esfuerzos de la banda no tuvo mucho éxito.
La primera formación estable estaba compuesta por el cantante Udo Dirkschneider, los guitarristas Wolf Hoffmann y Gerhard Wahl, el bajista Peter Baltes y el batería Frank Friedrich. Friedrich y Wahl dejaron la banda tras grabar Accept, desde entonces no intentaron continuar en el negocio de la música. Fueron reemplazados por Stefan Kaufmann y Jörg Fischer, y con esta formación la banda grabó I'm a Rebel en 1980. Éste fue el disco que llamó la atención de los medios, por lo que a continuación fueron invitados a su primer show televisivo.

Tres importantes eventos tuvieron lugar en 1981. Primero, el álbum Breaker fue presentado. Segundo, se firmó un contrato con el manager Gaby Hauke, que duró a lo largo de toda la carrera de la banda. Tercero, Accept se unió a la gira mundial de Judas Priest obteniendo un gran éxito, haciendo que la banda sea conocida fuera de Europa.
El siguiente álbum — Restless and Wild — fue grabado en 1982, pero sin la presencia de Jörg Fischer, quien dejó la banda un tiempo antes que la grabación se llevase a cabo. Todas las guitarras de este álbum fueron interpretadas por Wolf Hoffmann. Restless and Wild representó una evolución en el sonido de la banda, que incorporaba algunas características del género que más tarde sería conocido como speed metal, también se muestran muchos tintes del thrash metal, esto se observa en canciones como "Fast as a shark". Siguió un gran tour, y el guitarrista Jan Koemmet se unió a la banda.

Su próximo trabajo, Balls to the Wall, probaría ser algo diferente de lo que habían venido grabando hasta el momento, el álbum tenía una naturaleza conceptual, e incluyó canciones que hablaban de temas tales como política, sexualidad e Iglesia. Las letras de las canciones se acreditaron un tal "Deaffy", quien más tarde se supo era la manager Gaby Hauke bajo un seudónimo. Ella compuso las letras de todas las canciones de ese álbum, sin jamás reclamar la autoría de las mismas. Balls to the Wall fue el disco que le abrió a la banda las puertas de la masividad en el mundo del heavy metal, especialmente relevante por darlos a conocer definitivamente fuera de Europa.
Durante un show en su ciudad natal, en 1983, la banda encontró de casualidad a Jörg Fischer. A insistencia de Hauke, Fischer pasó a formar parte de la banda una vez más. Siguió una gira mundial que terminaría en 1984, en el histórico festival Monsters of Rock.

Metal Heart siguió a continuación, en 1985, pronto siguió el álbum en vivo Kaizoku Ban. Russian Roulette continuó la serie de álbumes, siendo producidos por el productor Dieter Dierks y lanzado en 1986.
A medida que pasaba el tiempo, las diferencias comenzaron a aparecer. Peter Baltes, Wolf Hoffmann y Gaby Hauke expresaron un creciente interés en los Estados Unidos, y pasaban más tiempo en el exterior que en Alemania, lo que significaba que estaban constantemente alejados de la banda. La distancia entre ellos creció, y se decidió que la banda entre en un receso, y que Udo Dirkschneider mientras tanto podría encarar un proyecto solitario. Los otros miembros de la banda trabajaron junto a Udo en la parte técnica de su primer álbum solista, titulado Animal House, presentado bajo el nombre de U.D.O. en Europa y Estados Unidos.
Después de un periodo de inactividad, Peter, Wolf y Stefan comenzaron a trabajar una vez más como banda con la ayuda del cantante David Reece; la carrera en solitario de Udo venía muy bien y el guitarrista Jörg Fischer había una vez más dejado Accept. Tras algunos demos, la banda se sintió más segura con la nueva formación y grabó Eat the Heat, el primer álbum de Accept sin Udo.
Una gira europea con el apoyo del guitarrista rítmico Jim Stacey siguió a la presentación del álbum. La gira, de igual modo, se interrumpió sorpresivamente cuando Stefan Kaufmann sufrió una seria lesión en su espalda. Fue reemplazado por el baterista Ken Mary por el resto de la gira. Para el fin de la misma, Hoffman, Baltes y Hauke habían decidido que Reece tenía una personalidad inestable y Kaufman iba a necesitar un largo tiempo de recuperación.
