Supertramp

Supertramp es un grupo británico de rock fundado en 1969 por Rick Davies, Roger Hodgson, Richard Palmer y Robert Millar. Aunque su música fue definida como rock progresivo, tras la salida de Palmer y Millar y la entrada de John Helliwell, Bob Siebenberg y Dougie Thomson, Supertramp incorporó una combinación de rock tradicional y art rock a álbumes como Crisis? What Crisis? y Even in the Quietest Moments, en los que se combinan composiciones de Davies y de Hodgson, con un uso predominante del piano eléctrico Wurlitzer y del saxofón.

El grupo gozó de gran éxito comercial y de crítica a finales de la década de 1970 y comienzos de la década de 1980 con la publicación del álbum Breakfast in America, que vendió más de veinte millones de copias solo en Estados Unidos, y con la difusión de canciones como «Goodbye Stranger», «The Logical Song», «Give a Little Bit» y «Take the Long Way Home», «Its Raining Again» ,entre otras. Supertramp ha logrado vender en general con todos sus álbumes y remasterizaciones mas de 40 millones de discos alrededor del mundo.

Tras la marcha de Hodgson en 1983, Davies tomó las riendas de Supertramp y publicó álbumes de menor repercusión comercial como Brother Where You Bound y Free as a Bird, con amplios periodos de inactividad musical. En 2002, Supertramp publicó Slow Motion, su último álbum de estudio hasta la fecha, y en 2010 emprendió la gira 70-10 Tour con motivo del 40º aniversario de la formación del grupo.

Respaldado por el millonario holandés Stanley August Miesegaes, el vocalista, pianista y ex-batería Rick Davies utiliza el periódico Melody Maker para formar una versión temprana del grupo en agosto de 1969 ofreciendo una "auténtica oportunidad". Al anuncio contestó el vocalista, guitarrista y pianista Roger Hodgson (nacido Charles Roger Pomfret Hodgson el 21 de marzo de 1950 en Portsmouth, Hampshire, Inglaterra). Otros miembros del embrión de Supertramp fueron Richard Palmer (nacido Richard Jeffrey Charles Palmer-James el 11 de junio de 1947 en Bournemouth, Dorset) y Robert Millar (nacido el 2 de febrero de 1950). Desde agosto de 1969 hasta comienzos de 1970, el grupo fue bautizado con el nombre de Daddy, momento en el que cambian el nombre para denominarse Supertramp, extrayéndolo de la novela escrita en 1910 por W.
